# Email templates

Email Template are used to provide a consistent starting point for Email Campaigns and Triggered Emails.

Created in the *Content* section of the [Navigation Bar](https://docs.maxemail.xtremepush.com/docs/navigation-bar) or by converting an existing email to a template, they work just like a [Regular Email](https://docs.maxemail.xtremepush.com/docs/email-creation).

They can only be created and edited by users with the *template editor* role, so that admins can restrict who is allowed to modify your brand templates. Further to the role restriction, Maxemail Email Builder templates can be switched into a [Controlled Template](https://docs.maxemail.xtremepush.com/docs/email-template-controlled-builder), meaning that only specific sections can be altered when the template is used to build an email.
