Recurring Emails
The Recurring Email feature allows you to set up scheduled, repeated emails sent daily, weekly or monthly according to your needs. TheĀ RecurringĀ option is available both when creating a singleĀ EmailsĀ andĀ Split Tests.
Negative credit balance
Recurring messages do not get disabled once all email credits have been used.
This is to make sure your carefully created automated campaign doesn't suddenly stop sending if you run out, and potentially time-critical messages get stopped. Due to this, it is entirely possible to enter a negative balance.
Under the terms of your contract, you will be charged at the agreed email credit rate included in your service agreement.
Before setting up a Recurring Email you should be fully aware of the number of credits you have in your account.
The similarities
Once you've created your Recurring Email or Recurring Split Test, they can be configured in the same way as described in this guide for standard versions.
The differences
Folder structure
The immediate difference is that theĀ Base EmailĀ orĀ Base CampaignĀ is created within a folder of your chosen name. Recurring Emails work by copying theĀ Base EmailĀ orĀ Base CampaignĀ at the scheduled time, so the folder helps to keep everything organised. The sent emails are typically organised into a monthly folder structure.
Segmentation
Use date segmentation
The recurring campaign will always send at the configured time, regardless of any successful or failed imports to the selected list(s).
It's important to use exact date-based segmentation to target the correct recipients for each time the recurring email is sent, for example: sign-up date was yesterday, event is tomorrow, last order was 4 weeks ago, etc.
Scheduling
On a Base Email, theĀ SchedulingĀ tab is adjusted to allow configuration of the recurring schedule. For example, this allows you to set if the email is going to go every day or every week and if it will recur forever or until a certain date.
A Base Campaign has the same change to itsĀ SchedulingĀ tab to allow configuration of the recurring schedule, but theĀ SetupĀ tab also removes the individual scheduled times from each email in the Split Test. When the Recurring Split Test is sent, the emails are sent one after the other in the order displayed.
Timezone
Messages are scheduled in the timezone set in your user account. It's important this is correctly set to avoid scheduling mistakes.
Maxemail will warn on login if the user's timezone doesn't match their own computer.
Sending
When the next run is due for the recurring schedule, theĀ Base EmailĀ orĀ Base CampaignĀ is copied and named like the Recurring Email including the current timestamp. It's then sent immediately and behaves exactly like a regular Email Campaign or Split Test.
Reporting
The sent Email Campaigns and Split Tests have all the usual standard reports available. On the Reporting tab of theĀ Base EmailĀ orĀ Base CampaignĀ there is an additional Reporting tab which shows statistics across all the sent emails
