SMS registration requirements

Since 1 June 2023, new UK SMS bulk sender filters require us to register any new Sender ID, also known as Originator, with the mobile network operators (MNOs). This process can take 2-3 weeks, in addition to the time taken to set up the virtual mobile number (VMN) required to handle opt-outs as part of basic SMS Configuration.

If requested by Support, the following information needs to be provided in order to register an originator:

Originator to be registered (must be between 3 and 11 characters, no spaces), if using a custom alphanumeric value in place of the default VMN.
The legal company name operating the originator.
The country of the operator.
URL for the operator's corporate website.
Operator's industry vertical.
Call-to-action URLs used in messages.
- A primary CTA, and any number of additional.
- Cannot include URL shortening services.
Description of use case.
A real example of what an SMS will look like.
Estimated monthly volume.

In addition, if the originator is a major financial or government brand, a signed & headed Letter of Authority will be in order to authorise delivery using the company name.
